MISSION, BC (March 20, 2023): Fraser House Society has offered substance use services in the community of Mission, BC for over 50 years. With a financial contribution from Health Canada’s Substance Use and Addiction Program (SUAP), we are happy to announce the launch of a new project creating conversation with men in the trades across the Fraser Region and ultimately across British Columbia.
Men in the trades between the ages of 19 and 59 have been severely impacted by deaths from the toxic drug supply. According to the BC Coroner’s Report in 2022, 70% of fatalities were people ages 30-59 and 79% of these people were male. Our province continues to lose an average of six people per day. This project will utilize living experience expertise to create four seasons of podcast episodes related to health, people who identify as men, and substance use.

The project's four overall objectives include:
1. To increase access to tools and information about pain, trauma, substance use and resources for men working in the trades.
2. To enhance awareness about resiliency and wellness from men, their families and natural supports who have lived/living experiences.
3. To decrease stigma related to using substances including opioids for men working in the trades.
4. To meaningfully and safely involve people who work in the trades in the development and implementation of this project.
Season One and Two of the podcast will launch on major podcast platforms in the Summer and Fall of 2023, with Seasons Three and Four being released in 2024
